Digital Befriending

Would you like to help elderly members of your community become more connected to the digital world?

Would you like to help people in your local community solve digital challenges?

Whilst the internet and technology are becoming ubiquitous in our society, still an estimated 9 million people in the UK are unable to use the internet without help (Lloyds Bank Consumer Digital Index 2020). As online communications develop further, more public services are moving online with limited support for those with less digital skills. This can lead those with minimal understanding of technology to being excluded and disadvantaged in our online society. In effort to help those affected by digital transformation, Wellmoor have created a Digital Befrienders scheme.

We’re looking for volunteers to be trained in digital enablement to be able to support elderly people in the local community access online services and use technology in ways that will increase their wellbeing. To become a digital befriending volunteer with us will require you to undertake training modules. The training will be provided in digital enablement via Digitalunite. The training can be done online, in a timescale that suits your schedule, and the course has CPD credentials.

If you would like to volunteer, or know of anyone who needs help with things such as ordering shopping, emailing or video calling relatives, or any internet or technology related issues, please get in touch by emailing Katie on katie@wellmoor.org.uk or calling 01647 440775.
